Nine years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Once again, we wish to express our sincerest condolences for those whose lives were lost, and our heartfelt sympathy for the many people who are still forced to live as evacuees.
We would like to announce that following the decision to postpone the “Sound of “Wa” Concert to Support Eastern Japan in a Spirit of Harmony 2020 in Tokyo,” out of consideration for the health and safety of concert-goers in view of the spread of the 2019 new coronavirus, a new date has now been decided for the concert. The concert will be held this autumn, on Monday, October 5 at the Orchard Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo.
On March 11, at 14:46, in memory of those who lost their lives in the disaster, the bell of the clock tower in the Wako Main Building is rung in a spirit of requiem and hope.
This year, we have filled the display window with numerous star cards containing the wishes and hopes of so many people; like the stars that glimmer in the night sky of Northeast Japan.
We ask that everyone kindly pause for a moment and turn your thoughts to the areas affected by the disaster.
Furthermore, next year, on March 11, 2021, marking ten years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the “Sound of “Wa” Concert to Support Eastern Japan in a Spirit of Harmony 2021 in Tokyo” will be held in the Nippon Budokan arena. It will also be the 40th such concert in all, of the concerts we have held in Tokyo and the three prefectures of Northeast Japan—Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima.
On the day of the concert, numerous artists who share the vision of this activity will be participating, and it is our sincere hope that we shall once again be joined in a great circle of song and deepen the bonds that unite us, as the name of the concert implies.
We shall never forget that day.
We believe that the power of music will continue to unite the hearts of those who suffered from the disaster and those who came to their aid into one giant circle of peace and harmony—the spirit of “Wa.” And with this firm belief, we shall continue to conduct these activities.
