Q&A
-
Q : How did you manage to relax during competitions or other high-pressure environments during your career?
Before major competitions or when swimming in unfamiliar venues, I made a conscious effort to relax. One of my techniques was to go up into the spectator stands to see what the competition would look like from there. That really helped me view myself objectively, which also helped me to relax.
-
Q : What did you do about your diet?
I paid close attention to consuming enough iron and vitamins. Also, I have a weakness for traditional Japanese sweets, so I would often enjoy yokan (sweet red bean jelly) when I felt a little hungry.
-
Q : Is there something you would like to do with the members of Team Seiko?
I would like to have a casual dinner with all the athletes and talk openly about our sports and perspectives!
-
Q : Is there a sport other than your own that you would like to try?
Basketball. I think I could make good use of my height, so I’ve always wanted to give it a try.

Team Seiko Athletes
Team Seiko athletes inspire others, particularly young people, through their outstanding achievements in sport.
They also embody Seiko’s group purpose of “creating a future filled with smiles worldwide.”
Seiko’s Measurement Technology
Timing and measurement are indispensable for sports competitions. Seiko has supported a variety of sports since 1964.
What we bring to each competition includes cutting-edge technology, experience, and a passion for sports.

Touch Plate
The touch plates installed on the start and turn sides do not react to water pressure or splashes, but are designed to accurately detect the swimmer's touch, and then send signals to the main timing system, the printing timer.

Starting Blocks
The starting blocks features a non-slip surface and a footplate that can be adjusted in five increments forward or backward to ensure a secure start for the swimmers. The starting block is equipped with sensors that detect the moment the swimmer’s feet leave the block and send a signal to the main timing system, the “printing timer.”
