Various Exciting Clock Schools

Various Exciting Clock Schools

The Seiko Time & Timepieces School offers a variety of classes in which participants can experience time.
These include hands-on activities such as learning about craftsmanship and making your own watch, as well as workshops for pre-school children, where they learn about history and get to use a real sports timer. Through these activities, children learn about various aspects of Time.
Seiko continues to support activities to help nurture the next generation, with the aim of creating a future full of children's smiles.

KidZania Tokyo and KidZania Koshien are facilities where children learn about work and society. Seiko offers kids the opportunity to work as performers in the Street Clock Pavilions, colorful attractions that tell the time at both facilities.

In addition to the permanent pavilions at KidZania Tokyo and Koshien, Exciting Week with SEIKO, a four-day limited-time event, presents Seiko Exciting Time & Timepieces School for kids from 1st grade to the end of junior high school so they can learn about Time.
Besides learning the history of timepieces and observing actual mechanical watches, participants can also experience watch craftsmanship by painting the dial of a custom-made toy box and inserting screws. At the same time, there will also be workshops for preschool children, and an activity called “Trying to Set a New Japan Record in the Men's 100m Track & Field Event” using a real timer that was used at the World Athletic Championships.
Through these activities, we provide children with opportunities to learn about the importance of time in various situations.

This workshop is held at Morioka Seiko Instruments in Shizukuishi Town, Iwate Prefecture, the home of Seiko craftsmanship.

This program allows elementary school students from Iwate Prefecture to observe firsthand the skills of local watchmakers. It also gives kids from Shizukuishi an opportunity to observe and take pride in world-class manufacturing in their own hometown. In addition to learning about Time and the history of timepieces, participants can tour a workshop where luxury mechanical watches are assembled, see a demonstration of craftsmanship by a master watchmaker, and ask questions directly to the craftspeople at the studio.

These workshops are held at The Seiko Museum Ginza, a museum dedicated to Time and timepieces, and at the Seiko Sky Garden on the roof of the clock tower of the Seiko House, a long-standing symbol of the Ginza district.

Participants will learn about the origin of timepieces and the history and operation of sundials, and be able to experiment with a paper sundial that they make themselves, an original Seiko sundial, and a shadow-box sundial that creates its own shadow.
This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to think about the concept of "Time" while on the rooftop of Seiko House, which is not normally open to visitors, and to enjoy a visit to The Seiko Museum Ginza.
This event is open to elementary school students from Grades 3 to 6.

clock icon Seiko Exciting Time & Timepieces School: Watch Assembly Program at The Seiko Museum Ginza

Experience the assembly of a quartz watch while learning from a Seiko engineer what kind of skills are necessary to create a watch that keeps accurate time.

Parents and children work together to assemble a watch using small parts. A tour of the museum is also included so that visitors can learn about the importance of measuring time, the history and evolution of timepieces, and how we are finally able to make watches that keep perfect time. Participants are invited to take the finished watches home with them. The program is open to elementary school students from Grades 3 to 6.

Participants can paint the large (28-cm-diameter) dial of this wall clock to create their own unique design.
The clock is complete when the hands are attached and the clock is placed in its case. Participants are invited to take home the clock that they created.
The program is open to children from 5 to 8 years old.
