Morioka Seiko Honored by National Award for Factory Greening

November 16, 2022
Seiko Group Corporation

Morioka Seiko Instruments Inc. (President: Yoshiaki Hayashi; head office: Shizukuishi-cho, Iwate-gun, Iwate; hereinafter referred to as "Morioka Seiko"), a group company of Seiko Group Corporation (Chairman, Group CEO and Group CCO: Shinji Hattori; head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) that manufactures watches for Seiko Watch Corporation, received the Chairperson's Award of the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center at the FY2022 Factory Greening Award Program (commonly called the National Award for Factory Greening).

This award, which dates back to 1982, is given annually by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to raise awareness of factory greening and to promote a greater understanding of its importance. The award is designed to inform the public about factories that have a diversity of and high percentage of green areas within their premises, and also excel at maintaining these areas and making contributions to the local environment.
Morioka Seiko has a rich, natural forest on its premises. Since 2011, the company has conducted biodiversity conservation activities and worked to communicate with the local community about its environmental initiatives. These include forest maintenance work by employees and their families, introducing environmental activities to local residents, and supporting environmental education for children. In addition to its exemplary maintenance and management of company green space, the firm's efforts to improve biodiversity and its proactive environmental conservation activities in partnership with the local government were key factors leading to the presentation of this award.
The Seiko Group regards "coexistence with Nature" as one of its strategically important themes, and is actively working to conserve biodiversity and natural capital in accordance with the individual characteristics of its business locations. Encouraged by this award, we will continue to pursue activities aimed at coexistence with Nature and our local communities.
The commendation ceremony of the National Award for Greenery Factory (National Assembly of Factory Greening Promotion Initiatives) is scheduled to be held on January 27, 2023, at the METI headquarters in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
