Seiko Group Corporation
Seiko Group Corporation (Chairman & Group CEO, CCO: Shinji Hattori; head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan, hereinafter “Seiko”) is pleased to announce the appointment of MISIA as a Seiko Group Ambassador. Since her debut in 1998, MISIA has been celebrated not only for her powerful vocals and status as a leading pop singer in Japan, but also for her outstanding social contributions, including educational support in Africa and aid for disaster-stricken areas in Japan and abroad.
Background to the Appointment of MISIA as Seiko Group Ambassador
In March of this year, MISIA performed the theme song for a television drama depicting the life of Seiko’s founder, Kintaro Hattori.
MISIA wrote this popular theme song, Yubikiri Genman, which conveys a message that resonates with today’s audiences. She said she was inspired by Kintaro Hattori’s unwavering belief in “making accurate time” accessible to everyone, and many of our employees were deeply moved by her strong voice and emotional lyrics.
Beyond her hugely successful career as a singer, MISIA is widely recognized for her dedication to various social causes. Among other programs, she has supported areas damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Noto Peninsula Earthquake and various other disaster-affected regions, advocated for pediatric medical care, promoted educational efforts in Africa, and advanced projects to combat poverty and malaria.
Following the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami of 2011, Seiko has also been actively engaged in relief efforts, hosting the "Sound of Wa Concert to Support Harmony in Eastern Japan" in the affected region of Tohoku as well as in Tokyo. Furthermore, we have promoted Toki-iku (Time Education) to help develop younger generations through initiatives such as the Seiko Exciting School and Seiko Summer Jazz Camp. These programs teach children the value of time and encourage independent thinking, which is vital for society’s future growth.
Our shared commitment to social causes has inspired us to select MISIA as a Seiko Group Ambassador. Through this partnership, she will embody our Statement of Purpose: “As a company trusted by society, we will constantly pursue innovation, inspiring people everywhere, and creating a future full of smiles.”
Future Activities
To commemorate her appointment as an ambassador, MISIA has designed a special Seiko edition inspired by her song Yubikiri Geman, which we will feature in our upcoming corporate advertising. We also look forward to her involvement in our social contribution efforts, including the Toki-iku (Time Education) program.

Message from MISIA on Becoming an Ambassador
"I am deeply honored to have been appointed an ambassador for the Seiko Group. This year, I had the privilege of performing the theme song for a drama about the life of Seiko’s founder, Kintaro Hattori. Preparing for the production allowed me to gain insight into his legacy and Seiko’s history, and I was profoundly moved by the company’s spirit of valuing people and building relationships of trust. Timepieces hold a unique place in our lives, enriching and facilitating our daily experience, and I felt that Seiko’s history truly embodies this spirit. The message, Decide for yourself how you want to spend your time, and let the clock tick on, resonated with me as I wrote the lyrics for the song Yubikiri Genman.
In celebration of this new role, I'm honored to present a fresh version of this song, which brings a new perspective on the flow of time that was not in the original. Through this song and my future activities as an ambassador, I hope to share the spirit and message of the Seiko Group with an ever-widening audience.”
MISIA Profile
MISIA debuted in 1998, and soon had a string of hit songs, including Everything and Aino Katachi (The Shape of Love). Among all the singers in Japan, she was chosen to perform the national anthem at the opening ceremony of the recent Tokyo Olympics. In addition to her musical career, MISIA is actively involved in social causes: For many years, she has supported children in Japan and provided educational support for children in Africa. She has also served as an ambassador for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, among other notable activities.
In 2023, MISIA celebrated her 25th anniversary with a large-scale national tour. In 2024, she participated in the “PEACEFUL PARK” live series to support reconstruction efforts in Noto peninsula and Hualien (two areas that were struck by natural disasters).
