Waku-Waku (Exciting) Forest and Biotope, situated on the grounds of Morioka Seiko Instruments Inc. (President: Yukinori Kato; head office: Shizukuishi-cho, Iwate-gun, Iwate; hereinafter referred to as "Morioka Seiko"), which manufactures watches for Seiko Watch Corporation, a group company of Seiko Group Corporation (Chairman & Group CEO, CCO: Shinji Hattori; head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan; hereinafter referred to as "Seiko Group"), has been certified as a Natural Symbiosis Site by the Ministry of the Environment.

Natural Symbiosis Sites are areas where the government recognizes that biodiversity is being preserved through private sector initiatives, and are one of the initiatives being taken to achieve the 30by30*1 goal.
Morioka Seiko has a forest on its grounds that is rich in nature, and the forest forms part of the local ecosystem network. Since 2011, the company has been steadily improving biodiversity through its biodiversity conservation activities, with guidance from external experts. In addition, conservation activities are being carried out while promoting communication with the local community, such as the maintenance of the Waku-Waku (Exciting) Forest by employees and their families, introducing activities to local people, and holding the Seiko Exciting Environment School environmental education for children. In 2022, with the cooperation of Iwate Prefectural University, we established the Waku-Waku (Exciting) Biotope which utilizes rainwater while adjusting its quality with the power of the natural environment. These efforts were evaluated in the certification process.

We have identified "harmony with nature" as a key materiality issue. With the goal of achieving "nature-positive" status—halting biodiversity loss and promoting recovery—we will continue collaborating with our stakeholders to implement biodiversity conservation activities tailored to the unique characteristics of each business location.

This target, part of the 2030 global goals within the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework, was adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in December 2022. It aims to conserve at least 30% of land and sea as healthy ecosystems by 2030. In Japan, 30by30 is a key target for achieving nature positivity—halting and reversing biodiversity loss to place nature on a recovery path by 2030.
Morioka Seiko is participating in the 30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity, led by the Ministry of the Environment.
