Increasing production of infrared array sensor modules for non-contact thermometers to prevent the spread of COVID-19

　Because of the COVID-19 global pandemic, there is a need for non-contact thermometers that can quickly measure whether subjects have fever (one of the main symptoms of infection) without touching the skin. The demand for non-contact thermometers for managing entry to not only medical institutions but also schools, airport facilities, and other places, has increased and exceeded normal supply volume. In response to these circumstances, Seiko NPC has decided to increase production of infrared array sensor modules, which are essential components for non-contact thermometers.

　Seiko NPC’s infrared array sensor module SMH-01B01 is a thermopile-type infrared array sensor module capable of detecting infrared energy over an 8×8 array of sensor elements, which it then converts to a radiating temperature output value. The heat-sensing part that detects temperature contains a silicon optical lens that allows it to measure body temperature within a short time even from a distance of 30 to 50 cm.
