Three Seiko Group facilities in Ginza introduce renewable energy

January 24, 2023
Seiko Group Corporation

Fuyo General Lease Co., Ltd.

Seiko Group Corporation (Chairman & Group CEO, CCO: Shinji Hattori; head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan; hereinafter referred to as “Seiko Group”) has signed an agreement with Fuyo General Lease Co., Ltd. (President & Chief Executive Officer: Hiroaki Oda; head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan; hereinafter referred to as “Fuyo Lease”) to obtain FIT Non-Fossil Certificates *1. Following the installation at Seiko House Ginza (former Wako main building) in January 2022, The Seiko Museum Ginza and two other facilities in Ginza 4-chome will introduce renewable electricity derived from a solar power plant operated by Fuyo Lease.

Facilities where solar power is to be introduced (as of January this year)
• The Seiko Museum Ginza (Seiko Namiki-dori Building)
• Seiko Dream Square (Yufukiya Building)
• Wako Bridal Boutique Ginza (Seiko Ginza Gas Light Street Building)

Namie Town in Fukushima Prefecture is working to use clean energy to help it recover from the massive 2011 earthquake. By purchasing FIT Non-Fossil Certificates with Tracking backed by the positive environmental value produced by the Namie Sakai No.1 Solar Power Plant, Seiko Group will use renewable energy generated in Namie Town at facilities located in Tokyo’s Ginza district.

The Seiko Group and Fuyo Lease will continue to promote various initiatives, including the use of renewable energy, to help bring about a more sustainable society.

The Seiko Museum Ginza

Established in 1981 as a museum related to "time and timepieces" to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Seiko's founding, the museum was relocated to Ginza, the birthplace of Seiko, in 2020 and newly opened as The Seiko Museum Ginza. In addition to the history of Seiko's products, the museum introduces the history of timepieces in general, from sundials to wadokei (traditional Japanese clocks), and is aimed at both adults and children.

Seiko Dream Square

This is a base for promoting the appeal of the Seiko brand. Seiko's popular brands Prospex, Presage, Astron, King Seiko, 5 Sport, and LUKIA are all available for sale.

Wako Bridal Boutique Ginza

Wako's bridal ring specialty store. A wide variety of wedding rings are available, including engagement rings with selected diamonds.

* FIT (Feed-in Tariff) Non-Fossil Certificate provides an assessment of the environmental value of electricity generated from renewable energy sources (those that do not emit CO2) based on the local power utilities’ standard electricity rate menu. In addition, FIT-derived Non-Fossil Certificates will be able to comply with RE100 (an international initiative aimed at using 100% renewable energy for all business activities) by adding tracking information (power source type, location, etc.) for power plants through the non-fossil certificate tracking program conducted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
